Look Good Feel Good

Time for some serious studying time. But it doesn’t hurt to look good while you’re at it. Besides, you don’t want to let everyone know how hard to worked to pull off that A? The key is to make it all look easy.

And don’t forget your liquids! Just thought we could all use a little inspiration, even if it is from an incredibly old Nylon editorial (with Valentine!)

Girl Crush of the Moment: Skye Stracke

I saw The Sartorialist’s photograph of Skye Stracke at the beginning of this year, and at first, I was immediately attracted to the amazing outfit (look at those shoes!) and her ethereal beauty. Most of you probably already know her, have seen her walk down runways for dozens of designers, and seen her in magazine editorials all over the world, so enough said, I’ll make this quick.

Reasons I love her:

  • She’s my age!
  • She’s fun and has great personality
  • Love her simplistic style, and the fact that she sticks to her wardrobe staples. Love her Miu Miu boots and bag
  • Fun fact: She’s also from (Perth,) Australia, just like our Style Spotlight girl of the month: Zanita Whittington!

I probably won’t be around as much for the next two weeks to concentrate on studying for finals, but I’ll try to squeeze in random posts as much as possible! For those of you who are doing the same, good luck!

P.S. For those of you who might need a little retail therapy to de-stress, the Gilt Groupe currently has the Cavalli RTW sale going on, and Zac Posen, Botkier, and Missoni sales coming up the next week, so you definitely don’t want to miss out on that. And if you don’t know about Gilt, it’s very similar to Hautelook, they get you great deals on designer clothing! We’d love to extend an invite to you here!

Girl Crush of the Moment: Daisy Lowe

Credits: tFS, Tatler Magazine

Daisy Lowe- the beautiful, curvy-for-a-model, British darling has been the talk of the town lately. Mostly because she’s been scoring major ad campaigns for next year, like for Marc by MJ and even DKNY which is rumoured to be shot by the Sartorialist Scott Schumann himself (so jealous!).

I mean, what’s not there to love about her? She exudes a cool confidence, dates an even cooler rocker boyfriend (Will – the frontman of Blondelle), and she’s got some pretty crazy family lineage. On top of that, you can get to know more about her on the BBC channel- it’s an adorable show about Daisy, her bf Will, and these two other young British talents. Go watch it!

Girl Crush of the Moment: Georgina Chapman

Georgina Chapman- designer and co-founder of the line, Marchesa- is a modern day glamour gal. She has the quintessential aura of Hollywood glamour and glitz. She’s usually seen in embroidered or black outfits and Louboutins, but really, anything show-stopping and shiny will do. Although Georgina doesn’t represent my personal style, I think she’s still noteworthy. After all, she is a successful designer of a New York based fashion line that is known for its romantic and feminine pieces. And, I think it is precisely because her style is so glam (I really should look up synonyms for ‘glamorous’) that intrigues me. My style icons revolve around the likes of Erin Wasson or Kate Moss… but Georgina is just pure gorgeous. And her makeup and hair are always perfect! I bet she would hit the best dressed list for the Oscars every year.. no joke! ;)
Anyway, I think it’s good to be open-minded about everyone’s personal style and preferences. Basically, if I were a public figure that attended a lot of events and parties (like the rich and famous), I would wish to be as gorgeous and glam (there I go again) as Georgina.

Girl Crush of the Moment: Jen Brill

I’ve been keeping tabs on Jen Brill for awhile now, but for most of that time, it never occurred to me that I had no idea what she actually does for a living, or has done. But after accumulating too many pictures of her in my inspiration folder, and admiring her style for too long, it finally called for a bit of research:

…….But hang on just a minute, Jen is far from being a “trophy girlfriend”. Jen tells us she has not got one minute to herself; she is a true businesswoman. “Everything goes so fast here if you want to be part of it, you have to be one hundred times better than anybody else, otherwise just forget New York, go live in New Jersey, get married there and have kids,” I met her in New York, in July last year, and it was just “mid-year calendar” for her. Like many New Yorkers, she works at the speed of light. After having organised trendy events for the Maritime Hotel, she now works for Fred and Associates, still in marketing, still top of the range…….

Great Style? Check. Admirable career? Check. Great personality? Check. Amazing out this world shoes? Check. Bright shoes bright makeup? Check. That’s why she’s my girl crush of the moment. Need I say more? Have you seen her Sophomore NYC photoshoot? Style wise, she tends to favor body conscious skirts/dresses and basics with a twist. Perhaps a basic body hugging dress with crazy studs, or a unique cut. Or a more conservative dress covered in chains with bright red lipstick. Or she’ll wear jeans with a crazy print and a big fur coat. Skinny jeans with crazy purple heels. You get the idea. We love it. We know you do too.

Super random trivia I found amusing: Jen Brill’s favorite candy is reportedly Nerds Rope.

Girl Crush of the Moment: Kate Lanphear

Kate Lanphear, the new Senior Style Editor at US Elle, has been taking fashion capitals by the world: from Tokyo, to Paris, and New York. Although there seems to be  a perfusion of monochrome colors in her wardrobe, she is the epitome of effortless chic. Her look is mostly androgynous and oh, the shoes she wears! The studded Burberry strap sandals she sported on fashion week has spread a fashion epidemic- the need for strapped and/or studded shoes are visible in numerous fashion blogs. And you can’t forget her uber chic platinum blonde hair- I swear, she makes me wish I was  blonde haha. Anyways, keep on the lookout for her in major streetstyle blogs like The Sartorialist, Garance Dore, etc. She’s that major.

Girl Crush of the Moment

Melanie Huynh

You’ve probably seen her pictures on The Sartorialist, or seen her name appear under ‘stylist’ in gorgeous editorials, and probably walking with a crowd of equally stylish ladies–Melanie Huynh, aka junior editor for French Vogue, aka one of the most styling ladies ever.

The first photo I saw of Melanie Huynh was courtesy of the Sartorialist, the picture on the far left. I instantly fell in love with her classic and cool style and attitude. She loves to wear darker shades of colors in varieties of shapes and textures; loose, flowy, voluminous tops with tight short bandage skirts, tights, and lace up booties (MJ actually has a post about lace up booties over at The Supermelon, check it out!) . I’m especially envious of all the jackets she owns and her leggyness (superrr jealouss muchh?).

One thing I’ve noticed though: she tends to wear minimal amounts of makeup and to carry small clutches? I wonder what she carries in there….

Whether you know her or not, take a look at her new picks in the august 2008 vogue, click on the thumbnail on the right to check it out:
